Bet you can't guess our letter of the week......

Have a look at our photo of today's Letter of the Week....Can you guess what the letter is???

it isn't Gg for glasses..... It's Nn for nose  and glasses!
We were busy practising our pattern, colouring and cutting skills and just managed to finish in time for a photo. Don't we look fantastic!
N has a 's-t-r-e-t-c-h-y' sound made with the tongue tucked behind the top teeth. Talk about n with your child and encourage them to hear the 'n' sound at the beginning and end of words.
We were all thrilled to have Bryn join us again and he worked hard with his new (and not so new) friends!
This is the correct formation for Nn "Naughty Nick"....

... And our number focus this week will be 4.
You could help by talking about ways to make 4 - use fingers or anything you can find around the house.... Talk about 1 and 3, 2 and 2 (this is a double) 3 and 1 and 4 and 0.
Here is rhe correct formation and number rhyme...

H...h..How about a Hat..??

Our letter this week is Hh so we were excited to make high hats just like Cat in the Hat! We stuck Hh words on them so we can help to remember the sound and words from our word rings!
Hh is a bouncy sound. if you hold your hand in front of your mouth you should feel the air blow out as you say h-h-h. Try it with your child and encourage them to find h at home... Search the newspaper, check out the pantry or look in the fridge for labels with an Hh.Becoming aware of letters and words in the environment around them is a really good way to connect and grow their learning.
It was great to have Bryn visiting again at 4 Stars....your school friends are always delighted to spend time with you Bryn!
Have a look at how happy we are in our hats....!

Our number focus this week is 2... There are lots of things you can talk about with your child ...think about all the "twos" we have on our body... Eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs......encourage them to come up with as many as they can. Talk about pairs... and if you know any twins make that connection too.
Alot of learning comes out of great discussion!
Look below to see how to form Hh ( Hairy Hatman) and 2.
Have a great week!

L..l..l.. Lovely ladybirds lazily swinging....

At 4Stars today our Letter of the Week was Ll
It was lovely to have Bryn come for his first visit...you friends were excited to see you Bryn!
We read The Bad tempered Ladybird and sang an 'l' song then we looked at our Ll chart and guess what...we have lots of Lls in Room 6!....... There's Lucas, Laura and Luca, Dallas, Israel and Blake ...so you can see why it's an important letter for us!
When we read the letter 'l' on our alphabet chart it is a 's-t- r-e-t-c-h-y' sound, made with our tongue touching the top of the mouth just behind the teeth. This can be a tricky sound to master so check and see how your child is progressing.
We made Ladybirds that are now twirling and whirling in our window. With apologies for the reflection, have a look...!
Check the Blog next week for a new letter and also our Number of the Week!

Welcome to a New Year!! 2016

Starting the year as we mean to go on...!
Welcome to another year in Room 6 at Matapu School...
Hopefully  we will be able to mix work with a bit of fun as you can see by our photo !!
I am looking forward to working with your lovely children and sharing their successes with you as they reach their milestones. I welcome your input and love to have you call in to say hi or ask questions if you have any.
I am so grateful for the work you do hearing reading, testing word rings, rechecking known word rings and all the other little bits that help reinforce what we are covering at school. If your child is making great progress you can be proud of your part in their success. The time you spend in your busy day really is worth it!

Looking forward to seeing you soon
